Despite all the achievements of the present-day tourism a significant part of the guests visiting our region, prefers trekking. And the reason is not only a relatively low cost. The huge vial of the world's purest water is surrounded by rocky shores, so, highways along the lake, especially along the western coast, are rare.

Yet, literally in any corner of Lake Baikal there are tracks laid in due time by hunters, fishermen, and, later, by geologists and trekkers. In the southern and mid parts of the lake they are better groomed, since all the basic tourist centers, such as the village of Listvyanka, the Pestchanaya bay and Ol'khon Island, are here. Therefore, having even one day to spare, you can make an easy "trekking" along the famous "Krugobaikalka" or as far as the old gold mines in Bolshiye Koty, an ancient Evenki settlement. And, having three days, you can walk the stretch from Listvyanka to the village of Bolshoye Goloustnoye. Presence of tourist bases on this leg of the route allows to do without tents and sleeping bags, having only the musts in your backpack.

More advanced "strollers" are welcome to the "Healing springs of Shumak valley" and "Backpacking in the heart of Lake Baikal". And for those, who prefer to combine trekking with other kinds of rest, we have advice to take notice of the "Outdoors in the South of Baikal" and "To the Valley of Volcanoes".
